SCSI Trade Association Announces New Board of Directors

Press Releases » STA Releases

San Francisco, February 24, 2003 – The SCSI Trade Association (STA), a member-run industry consortium established to support and promote SCSI technology, announced their newly elected Board of Directors for 2003 today. Re-elected to the presidency was Harry Mason of LSI Logic, president from 1995 through 2000 and again in 2002.

The recent announcement of the technology alignment collaboration between STA and the Serial ATA II Working Group (January 20, 2003) is stimulating greater interest in Serial Attached SCSI technology, raising the expectation that more companies may join STA (see page two of this release for a current member company list).

STA anticipates that Serial Attached SCSI products will enter the market in 2004. Member companies are now working on their Serial Attached SCSI designs in tandem with the INCITS T10 committee’s completion of the draft specification for submission to the American National Standards Institute. STA’s role is to ensure that the resulting Serial Attached SCSI standard meets the future needs of enterprise class storage devices.

“STA is enjoying a surge of energy as a result of the Serial Attached SCSI initiative,” said Harry Mason, president of the SCSI Trade Association. “The vision of creating a common connection scheme, compatible with Serial ATA to service a broad range of storage requirements, has generated a great deal of enthusiasm with both OEMs and storage users. The coexistence of Serial Attached SCSI and Serial ATA drives in storage subsystems will significantly improve the way the storage market is served.”
