Serial Attached SCSI T10 Standards Committee Becomes an Early User of Small Form Factor SAS Disk Drives

San Francisco, April 17, 2006 – The SCSI Trade Association (STA), a member-run industry association established to support and promote SCSI technology, announced today that the T10 technology and standards committee, which has the INCITS1 mandate for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) technology development and standardization, is the recipient of a new HP server. The server, an HP ProLiant DL580 G3, was installed recently. All files have been transferred from the previous server and operational support for T10 members and committees has begun.

Server specifications include:

• Eight 36-gigabyte Small Form Factor (SFF) 2.5″ SAS hard disk drives
• Four single core 3.0 gigahertz processors
• One P600 smart array controller
• Eight gigabytes of random access memory (RAM)
• Dual power supply

The new server provides much needed computing support for the development of SAS standards and all other T10 activities. Its computing power will ease and speed the committee’s technical projects as well as promote better communications within the committee.”

SAS market entry is the result of four years of preparation, including development of the SAS technology, standardization of the specifications, interoperability testing, and finally the recent market entry of SAS storage systems. Testing for SAS interoperability during development and early product introductions has virtually eliminated interoperability and compatibility problems.
