Leading Chinese storage integrator to utilize Xyratex F5412E RAID system as part of security and anti-terrorism video surveillance measures during Olympic Games

Havant, United Kingdom, January 28, 2008 – Xyratex Ltd. (NASDAQ: XRTX), a leading provider of enterprise class data storage subsystems and storage process technology, today announced that EDI Technology, a storage integrator, is using the Xyratex F5412E RAID system for online and archive storage of video surveillance at the Beijing Capital International Airport. The Xyratex F5412E 4Gb FC-SAS/SATA-II RAID product delivers EDI the storage scalability, reliability and throughput performance to also support crucial anti-terrorism and security efforts at the airport during the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

“Helping ensure the highest level of security at Beijing Capital International Airport during the Olympic Games is paramount to EDI, and we selected the Xyratex F5412E solution over competing solutions because of its high-performance connectivity, flexible support and unmatched reliability, which the project requires,” said Mike Su, CEO of EDI. “The cutting-edge video surveillance technologies being applied at Beijing Airport are critical components to its anti-terrorism and security measures. Having Xyratex as our data storage infrastructure solution delivers us a greater level of confidence and performance that we need for a project of this scale.”

EDI is a major storage integrator (SI) in the video editing and CCTV markets, as well as other vertical areas such as telecom, web services, financial services, oil & gas and life sciences. Using the Xyratex F5412E, EDI will benefit from the product’s combination of Fibre Channel connectivity with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA (SATA) drive technology to deliver high reliability and scalability. By leveraging the SAS full duplex, point-to-point architecture with dedicated connections, the F5412E delivers maximum data throughput, thereby providing faster, more responsive applications. Additionally, the F5412E sustains maximum throughput (MB/s) for high band-width applications like the video surveillance efforts EDI is supporting for Beijing Capital International Airport as well as database-intensive online transaction processing.

“Xyratex and EDI have successfully worked together for more than ten years, and we are looking forward to helping ensure critical security measures for the Olympics are met and that the games can be enjoyed around the world,” said Todd Gresham, executive vice president of Networked Storage Solutions for Xyratex. “We also see this engagement as an opportunity to continue our growth in the fast-growing video surveillance market as well as growing our already well-respected reputation in China.”
